This past weekend, on Saturday, September 21st, five of our FHS cheerleaders got the opportunity to attend one of IU’s football games, and perform a dance at halftime. The cheerleaders were Ava Davis, Bella Lofland, Aryanna Pilliteire, Bella Mann, and Jaylin Alexander.
The girls were sent a video of the dance, and were expected to learn it before they actually attended the event. After the game against Central Noble, the girls had to drive an hour and a half to a hotel, stay the night at the hotel, and drive two more hours in the morning, as they were expected to be on campus in Bloomington by 8:30 A.M. for registration. The girls got to experience a mini pep-rally outside the stadium after everyone had arrived, and then they had to practice the dance. The girls practiced for around two, maybe three hours, and then they were allowed to watch the beginning of the game.
After the first timeout in the second quarter, they had to go practice one final time before halftime. Once it was halftime, the girls performed after the IU Band and Dancers. Once the girls were finished and walked off the field, they were allowed to leave or stay and watch the rest of the game. Our five cheerleaders chose not to watch the second half of the game, as it was very hot throughout the entire event, and they were very tired from both the event itself and the FHS football game the night before.
All five girls plan on attending the event again next year, and they plan on trying to attend more events similar to this one. All of the girls agreed that the event was worth going to, and they all had fun. The girls’ favorite part of the whole event, however, was getting to meet and talk to some of IU’s cheerleaders before the mini pep-rally.
