Every year, the Fremont High School Student Council raises money for Adopt a Family by hosting the Turkey Auction.
The auction, held during Flex on a November day, is held in the gym and sees all of the members of the FHS Student Council auctioned off to the highest bidder. A backup bidder is also named, just in case the first bidder fails to pay for their turkey.
Auctioneers for the event are Mr. Joe Camp and Mr. Eric Wirick. Bids are capped out at $40, and there is no limit to how many turkeys a purchaser can buy. This year’s auction raised $823.
Once bought, turkey buyers have a few days to pay be- fore the fun begins. Then, on the Friday before Thanksgiving Break, the turkeys have to do silly things their buyers ask of them, as long as the turkey doesn’t feel it’s demeaning to them.
This year, many of the turkeys were see dressing in silly costumes, doing interpretive dances, and reciting Grinch quotes.
Turkey Auction is a time-honored tradition at FHS and the students all enjoy participating in the event.
