Beginning in September, Indiana Youth and Government will be meeting at the YMCA of Steuben County, 500 E. Harcourt Rd., Angola.
Nicknamed INYAG, the program is a civic leadership program designed to let students who are involved learn more about democracy through doing. Participants are hands-on with the democratic and legislative processes involved with government.
Experiences include writing a bill for a change that they want to see in Indiana, present a bill at the Indiana state house in Indianapolis like a real legislator would, and of course, gain memorable experiences with other students from throughout the state of Indiana.
The program also aims to foster creativity, communication, commitment, and passion in its participants.
INYAG kicks off on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. in room 2 at the YMCA. Then, the group will meet weekly, also in room 2, from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday nights. All attendees will also be treated to Tom’s Donuts.
For FHS students interested in INYAG, reach out to fellow students Lela Wolf, Lexi Lovell, or Lily Coler. Those interested can also email YMCA Youth Coordinator Kandee Stroud, [email protected].
