The Soaring Eagle Spotlight, the publication put together by the Fremont High School Journalism and Marketing Club, had a very successful first year in the 2023-24 school year, and is happy to announce that the publication is back and even better for the 2024-25 school year.
Thanks to a generous donation from FIST through their grant program and another generous donation from Swager Communications, Fremont, The Soaring Eagle Spotlight is not only publishing its emailed PDF version on Fridays, but will also be publishing all stories online on its new website, https://fcssoaringeaglespotlight.com.
The club is also using new content management software which will better allow members to keep their work organized.
Online stories may also feature additional photos that cannot otherwise fit in the PDF version sent to student emails weekly. Staff are excited for these changes and to share additional content with the Fremont Schools community. We know how important it is to share all of the great successes happening here at Fremont. Our student body is full of talented people, and Spotlight Staff enjoy sharing all of the great things each and every person does both in and out of school.
Past stories have included features about scholarship recipients, senior athletes, senior band and choir students, senior thespians, 4-H successes, leadership retreats, and more. This will only continue to grow as the publication grows.
As staff gear up for another exciting year of writing, they also plan to begin growing their own skills in additional ways by covering live sporting events, meetings, and other school activities that have not previously been covered in depth by this publication. We believe every activity has a story that should be told, and we firmly believe in giving every event and activity we can the coverage it deserves.
This also means students need to be checking their student email daily, as inquiries will be emailed frequently. Some interviews can be done through email, but staff would like to set up additional face-to-face interviews this year to better improve communication and speaking skills for staff and for interviewees. Whenever possible, face-to-face interviews will take place during Flex.
Publications are currently planned on a mostly weekly basis, though publications will not be sent on weeks where school is not in session for a full week. The schedule is subject to change, if necessary, but the goal is to publish as close to weekly as possible.
New members for the journalism and marketing club are being considered and interested students can inquire via email or in- person with Mrs. Hoos.
Suggestions for stories, events, or activities to cover can be emailed to club advisor Mrs. Hoos at [email protected].
